CBB was formed in 1997 as a local Big Band to give Coronado High School students jazz band experience. With that much talent it was only a matter of time before they began playing all over San Diego county from Dizzy’s jazz club downtown San Diego, Balboa Park twilight concert series, Bernardo Winery summer Big Band Nights, Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado Yacht Club, USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum, Grossmont Center, and Coronado Ferry Landing.

Sunday April 9, 1:00-2:30 pm
This guitar duo was formed in 2009 by Craig Stephenson and his long time mento Mark Bacilla, who has been active in the San Diego music scene for decades, most notably as the leader and composer for the virtuoso fusion group “Speed of Sound” and as a highly sough tafter educator of aspiring musicians.
In addition to original compositions by Mark Bacilla, their repertoire includes the full spectrum of classical and jazz styles – with popular works by Celso Machado, Isaac Albeniz, Sergio Assad, J.S. Bach, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chick Corea, among many others.

Crown Island Jazz Band
Sunday April 9
11:30 am – 12:45 pm
20 years ago Dale Swisher (trombone) and Andy Gorham (drums), both residents of Coronado, dusted
off their instruments and formed the Crown Island Jazz Band. Janed Casady joined on piano and other traditional jazz instrumentalists were soon in place with banjo, trumpet, reeds, and tuba.
Their first gig was at the Bay Beach Café (now Candelas) where they entertained audiences for a year or two. Other venues included the Beach Club at the Coronado Towers (Mardi Gras), Red Bull
Races over San Diego Bay, Coronado Ferry Landing, Coronado Flower Show, and many private parties including weddings and funerals. The Annual Dixieland Jazz Festival during the Thanksgiving Holidays at The Town and Country were always a favorite venue for the Band.
2017 Flower Show visitors will hear traditional Dixieland jazz with lots of old favorites like 5’2″ and Ain’t She Sweet, Blues like Basin Street Blues, Trog’s Blues and Dallas Blues, and some not so familiar tunes like Dixieland One Step, Sweet Lotus Blossom and Clarinet Marmalade.
Allan LaMotte, leader/trombone
Jim Napier, trumpet
Tony Higgins, reeds
John Palmer, tuba
Bob Constantine, drums
Janed Casady, piano/keyboard
