Mr. Crawford leads the Coronado Floral Association (CFA) into an exciting future as its 37th president. Envisioning exciting possibilities and enlisting others in a shared view of the future – Don is expanding the breath and scope of the Association that co-produces Coronado’s longest running tradition. Ramped up publicity and social media, a brand new website, increased year-round education services…these are just some of the things you can look forward to this year and beyond.
Don calls Coronado home since 1967, where he retired after 29 ½ years of service to our Country in the Naval Special Warfare Community. His wife, Leslie, is a Master Gardener, former CFA president, former Coronado Flower Show Chair, and a current Master Gardener coordinator in the Chefs’ Garden at the Hotel del Coronado. In addition to his leadership role with CFA, Don also currently serves as the President of the Optimist Club of Coronado.
On a side-note, you can look for Don on the Bandstand Sunday morning 10am. He’ll be front and center in the flute section of the Coronado Concert Band as they kick off Sunday morning with a special concert!
Megan brings to her role as CFA’s Treasurer well over a decade of experience, working with individuals and small businesses in all aspects of finance from investments and insurance to taxes and estate planning. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from College of Charleston and a M.B.A. from University of Florida. In addition to finance, Megan has a passion for history and keeping history alive. While in college she worked at two historic houses and later volunteered as a docent for the Coronado Historical Association giving tours of the Hotel Del Coronado.
Megan lives in Mission Hills with her husband Matt who attended Coronado High School. She is involved in many areas of the Coronado community and CFA is proud to entrust its accounting and fiscal health in her capable hands.
Jennifer Settle is a Coronado resident since 1972. One of her passions is playing in the dirt to find her Zen place. There are times she’ll go out in the garden at 5 am and as late as 8pm her husband must call for her to come back into the house!
Jenn feels she learns a lot of valuable lessons through gardening – lessons she can apply both to her life and her business. One of her favorite quotes is from Gertrude Jekyll, a British horticulturist and garden designer:
A garden is a grand teacher. It teaches patience and careful watchfulness;
it teaches industry and thrift; above all it teaches entire trust.
Jenn brings this level of passion and dedication to her role as Secretary for the Coronado Floral Association. Raised in Coronado, she attended both Sacred Heart School and Coronado High School. She met the love of her life, Dwight Settle, who was in the UDT/SEAL TEAMs, 35 years ago in Spreckles Park. They have been married now for 34 years and have 4 children and 6 grandchildren – all of who attended Coronado Schools.
Born on Earth Day (April 22), Ms. Drummey is all about Mother-Earth and sustainable living, recycling resources, planting and growing, getting her hands into the earth, and piddling around her vibrant green yard in La Mesa. Her mission as Chair of the 2017 Flower Show is expanding the Show by bringing in more vendors, exhibitors, and visitors from within Coronado and across the bridge to greater San Diego.
Diana became involved with the Coronado Floral Association over 10 years ago as an exhibitor at the Flower Show. Since then she became a National Garden Clubs Judge, has chaired a variety of design sections in the Flower Show, became a Master Gardner through the Master Gardner Association of San Diego, and co-chaired the 2016 Flower Show. This year’s Flower Show is going to be super great thanks to the powerhouse we know as Diana Drummey!
A 35-year resident of Coronado, Kris Grant is Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Coronado Lifestyle Magazine, which includes coverage on the topics of horticulture, gardening, floral design, Coronado’s Master Gardners, and each year’s Coronado Flower Show event.
Kris loves to spread the seeds of horticultural knowledge to local readers and visitors alike, who consistently seek out the information. She brings this same passion to her role as Publicity Chair for CFA, disseminating information about the Association itself and the Annual Flower Show to the largest possible audience. CFA is lucky to have Kris Grant give voice to its cause, activities, and events!
Shelley Parker came to the Coronado Floral Association (CFA) by invitation of the current President, Don Crawford. Both are flutists and performing members of the Coronado Concert Band (CCB). Don took note of Shelley’s work for CCB, creating a beautiful, content-rich website, and managing several social media platforms to promote the Band and also provide a fun outlet for its members to share their love of music. Now, as CFA Technology Chair, Shelley is applying her talents to a re-envisioning of CFA’s website and social media presence.
